The White Mountains of New Hampshire

Today we visited the White Mountains in northern
New Hampshire.  Although these peaks aren't
nearly as high as the mountains we have in the west, they are still impressive by any standard.  The mountains consist of hard granite and the valleys are covered with a blanket of deciduous forest that will soon be ablaze with fall colors.  This is a very popular place to visit in the summer, winter and fall, and we just happen to be between seasons, so it wasn't crowded at all.

We enjoyed taking walks through the woods, taking a tram to the top of a mountain,  seeing covered bridges, shopping at fun gift shops, and just enjoying the beautiful scenery.  New Hampshire is very rural, with only a few cities of any size, so don't count on seeing many people from New Hampshire out west.
